Not to be confused with Unordinary (book)
UnOrdinary (stylized as unORDINARY) is an original fantasy Webtoon series created and illustrated by Uru-chan. It was released on LINE Webtoon on May 24, 2016. It is currently being published as a featured series and is the subject this wiki is documenting information on.
Background[]
unORDINARY originated as two separate drafts concerning two individuals inside of a cafeteria participating in a duel over a slice of cake, while a bystander observes the situation and angrily swears. These silly drawings would later evolve into the Webtoon you read today.
Originally posted on Tapas, it was featured on LINE Webtoon's Challenge League before becoming a full-fledged series. The first chapter was released on May 24, 2016. New episodes of the series were published every Tuesday, but this has changed since Chapter 15 (see "Update Frequency" section).
Similar to Uru-chan's OFR-Ice, UnOrdinary is available on Tapastic, but only as extras; it has been discontinued as of January 3rd, 2016.
Uru-chan was originally responsible for the coloring of the webtoon, but this immense task was later handled by other artists, including:
- Komikaki Studio: Helped throughout second half of Season 1[1], parted ways after Season 2 mid-season finale.
- Sonia Liao: Helped throughout second half of Season 1 only.[1]
- seirvitas 133-162
Plot/Premise[]
unORDINARY follows the life of John Doe, a male teenager attending Wellston Private High School, a prestigious school where every student possesses all kinds of special powers. Due to him being a cripple (ordinary), John is bullied and beaten by others on a daily basis. One day, he encounters Seraphina, the God-Tier and Ace of Wellston, who also ambushes him over the school's prized chocolate cake; though they eventually develop a bond and become friends. However, John has a dark secret that nobody knows about, and his life at Wellston goes downhill very quickly.
Similar to the popular shōnen manga and anime series My Hero Academia, unOrdinary is set in a world where humans have Abilities, which are superpowers, and those who are Low-Tiers (weak) or powerless (referred to as the slur "cripple") are relentlessly bullied by those who are more powerful. This basic premise is used to tell a message about society.
Update Frequency[]
Following the prologue new chapters of the series used to come out weekly on Tuesday, but this has changed to every Wednesday after the release of Chapter 15; though it will take longer if Uru-chan is going on vacation or relaxes from the series.
*Note: The series now updates every Thursday.
Characters[]
- John - The main protagonist of unORDINARY. He is mostly subject to bullying due to him being powerless; he is known for his usage of hair gel (usually a copious amount), which is something readers love to hate on.
- Seraphina - Wellston's Ace. She is a God-Tier who is generally laid back and nonchalant. She has magenta hair with yellow highlights and wears extensions. Has the power of Time Manipulation.
- Arlo - Wellston's King and villain in later episodes. He is canonically called "Asslo" by fans, characters, and even the author herself due to his jerk personality. He has the power of Barrier.
- Rei - Remi's deceased brother who was the previous King of Wellston. It is revealed that the school was equal for all while King. He was killed by EMBER. He had the power of Lightning.
- Remi - Wellston's Queen who shares the same ability as her brother. She is generally kind and never bullies cripples or Low-Tiers, which is what she inherited from Rei.
- Blyke - Wellston's Jack. He is best friends with Remi and Isen. In Season 2, he becomes a vigilante to become stronger. He has the power of Energy Discharge (formerly called Energy Beams.)
- Isen - Wellston's best writer for the Wellston Weekly. Has the power of Hunter.
- Cecile - Head of the Wellston Weekly and temporary ally of John. Has the power of Vine Conjure.
- Zeke - Recurring antagonist in UnOrdinary. The school bully who likes to suck up to stronger students. Has the power of Phase Shift.
- Terrence - A writer for the Wellston Weekly, who is in actuality, working for a major conspiracy.
Reception[]
The series is extremely popular as a featured series on Webtoon in both English and Spanish. As a result, it has gained a large fanbase on the internet and merchandise. The series's trailer has over 9.9 million views on YouTube.
