My name's Orrin. Would you care to take a walk with me?

- Orrin introducing himself to Terrence

Orrin is a major antagonist in UnOrdinary. He is one of three executives of the organization Spectre, being Terrence's former boss. He is in charge of a group fond of using the Ability Disablers that assaulted Seraphina as well as the Safe House.

Personality

Orrin is a subtle, sadistic and manipulative man who will harm anybody to maintain his power. He is confident in himself, carrying a terrifying yet calming aura. He believes that making risks is what makes Spectre so powerful like it is today. Like the other executives, he likes to remain anonymous and generally hides behind the scenes. To Terrence, he presents himself as a fatherly figure and likely treats his other subordinates like this. He doesn't actually care for his subordinates, however, only viewing them as pawns and killing them if they oulive their usefulness. His main method of recruiting seems to be taking in people at their worst points in life (or disabling high-tiers and forcing them to work for him so they can have their ability back.) He will have his men perform public assaults which harm innocent people.

Appearance

Orrin has combed light brown hair, the same colour as his speech bubbles. He has green eyes. He is seen wearing a white shirt, blue coat and black tie.

History

Orrin rose to become one of the executives of Spectre. He claims to have led the organization to where it is today by taking tremendous risks.[1] Of all the zones controlled by Spectre's executives, Orrin's contained the largest concentration of high-tiers. The most prominent town in his sphere of influence was none other than Wellston.

From time to time, Orrin personally recruited agents to serve under his division. One of them was a boy whose mother passed away. Orrin spotted the youth mourning at her grave, and stepped forth to offer his condolences. He claimed to have seen cases like his all the time, and soon took him under his wing. Orrin saw plenty of potential in the boy's ability to turn invisible. So he trained him, and showed him the trade of using Spectre's Ability Disabler on unsuspecting high-tiers. The boy became designated as Agent Wellston, named after the town he was sent to operate in. Orrin enrolled him in the town's most prestigious (and high-tier saturated) high school, under the alias of "Terrence".[2][3]

Plot

WARNING: Sections in italics indicate important plot points that are elaborated on in later arcs.

Revelations

In his debut, Orrin sends some of his employees to Leilah, asking to speak with her. We first see him over the phone asking if Leilah is making unauthorized moves behind Spectre's back. Leilah says she was given permission and asks why his people dampened an entire cafe, to which he says not to question what he does.

Discord

Orrin and the other executives had an anonymous meeting with Seraphina, who's accompanied by Leilah. While starting their conversation, he interrupts and questions Seraphina's loyalty. The other two executives don't agree with this, but he ignores them. Seraphina remarks to him that she was already blacklisted by the authorities and that she is definitely loyal to them. He then requests that some of his men assist Seraphina with an assignment for her Safe House's field trip in Rowden, not letting her refuse.[4]

Infiltration

Officially, Seraphina was to simply slip into a NXGen Research Facility in the nearby town of Arcwood as part of a heist to lift important assets regarding Conversion Technology.[5] Eager to begin research of his own, Orrin was genuinely interested in that particular mission's success.[6] But from the beginning, he intended to betray Seraphina's trust and breach the agreement that her friends not be targeted for disabling and recruitment. Agent Wellston had been planted to separate the students and lead one group them to an isolated spot in the mountains in order to be picked off.[7] Despite his agents' best efforts, only two students were dosed with disabler. One was John, the most powerful.[8] The other was his own agent.[9]

Escalation

As good a prize as another god-tier in Spectre's service may have been, Orrin's attempted machinations ultimately came at a great price. Wellston and many other agents were arrested. During a meeting with Leilah and his fellow executives, Orrin laid the blame on Asset 47 for defying orders. Leilah refutes him for trying to get her to take the fall after he was the one who went behind everybody's back to break the single most important condition Seraphina mandated for her services. His underhanded methods resulted in the Authorities having the means to discover their operations by prying into Wellston's mind. Orrin dismisses her and replies that it is often necessary to make such risks. Eventually, Leilah managed to argue that despite Seraphina's rebellion, eliminating her would only cost Spectre the best asset they'll probably ever have. So a meeting with Seraphina was arranged.[1]

As for the matter of Agent Wellston, Orrin had it covered. He coldly ordered Liam to break in and kill his loyal follower to prevent information from leaking out. While waiting for his assassin's return in his headquarters, Orrin pondered that Asset 47's ability to avoid the consequences of self-serving actions rivaled his own. That made her too great a threat to his goals. When Liam returned and reported the success of his mission, Orrin gave him a new one: kill Asset 47.[3] Alas, the hit was botched thanks to the combined efforts of Special Agent Kayden and his college buddy.[10][11]

Despite this setback, Orrin chose to go on with business as usual. At a later point he targeted Rein, Melvin, and another high-tier, each one the most powerful in their respective regions. He had the three of them weakened, kidnapped, and brought before. Orrin began to explain his intentions, but Melvin interrupted him and attempted to attack the moment his restraints came off. So Orrin subjugated all three of them with his ability, and scorned the outspoken whelp as just another punk who didn't know his place. He then forced Rein and the other man to kill him. After the little demonstration was over, Orrin frees the survivors and invites them to "discuss their terms."[6]

Division

One night, at another secret base of Spectre, Orrin brought Liam and Candice into his facility. He broke them some good news: their own Coversion Technology project is a go! Thanks to a certain former asset of theirs, who stole important data from NXGEN, they'd be able to create some sample from it. They were this close to defeat Authorities at their own game. With his agents' curiosity peeked, he showcased one example of the ability they copied: the one from the high-tier Orrin killed before. He explained how their own ability conversion works, reminding the two only high-tiers being able to use the sample, hence why he invited the two here.[12]

The day of the meeting had arrived. Orrin, alongside other executives greeted Seraphina. However, they didn't expect her to bring her plus one.[13] Seraphina formally introduced her friend, highlighting his strengths and potential as Spectre's next top agent. Orrin questioned her gesture, and pointed out he is the one who calls the shot, not her. Seraphina argued this was his idea at first, as people who get disabled are destined to become a part of their humble organization. Despite her explanation, Orrin still couldn't trust this John guy. Other executives interjected, giving the opportunity to John to explain himself.

John elaborated on his reasons on joining Spectre. Orrin attempted to pry his dark past, but the Shadow King persevered. With other executives convinced, Orrin remained doubtful on his supposed loyalty. Irked up, John did not held back on his opinion towards the man. Neil intervened, stated the Rowden incident was not what they intended. He and Miranda dealt with the technical formalities of the plan, and left the rest to Orrin. The man promised to take care of them.

Off the record, Orrin intended to show them all who's the boss. He rang the lab and told the working doctor to operate the recovery machine at half power. He also sent Liam and Candice to keep an eye on John and Seraphina, and to not hesitate on testing the new ability on the teens. [14]

Abilities

Orrin ability

Orrin's ability

Orrin is a very powerful individual given he is an executive of Spectre who holds command over Leilah a god-tier.

Dominion: He has a brainwashing ability that forces his targets to do what he says in a trance-like state. It is unknown if these affects can last for extended times or over the phone, but it is a highly effective ability which he can use to enforce murders.

Intelligence

Most of the threat Orrin poses comes from his cunningness and manipulation. Everything he's done was for his own personal self-gain, but he still maintains his position within Spectre by playing off his actions as for the good of the organization as a whole. Long ago, he took advantage of Terrence's emotional vulnerability in order to acquire a devoted subordinate with an immensely useful ability. Terrence never suspected that Orrin saw him as expendable until it was too late.

Notes & Trivia

  • Orrin could be a fake name, like the other executives.
  • There is an ongoing theory that Orrin is the high-tier who violated and impregnated Terrence's mother. Not to mention, Orrin's speech bubbles are roughly the same color as Terrence's.
