Kayden is an employee of Spectre serving as an ally of Leilah. He is also a student at the University of Wellston.
Appearance[]
Kayden is a university student with shaggy amaranth-silver hair, tan skin and eyes that glow reddish-orange. He wears an open teal jacket over a white polo shirt. His speech bubbles are light Fuschia.
Personality[]
Kayden appears to be friendly, nice, loyal and somewhat goofy. Leilah considers him trustworthy so he is most likely not like his coworkers. Kayden has no problem giving Seraphina and Arlo information, as long as he thinks he's allowed to. He makes clear that he is different from the other employees, whom are responsible for the Ability Disabler. Kayden also seemingly likes to study.
History[]
Kayden was raised by his parents until their deaths during his teenage years. He was subsequently taken in by Neil, who saw to it that he continued his education in order to develop his sharp mind. Neil was also one of the executives of Spectre, and Kayden joined the organization as part of his section.[1]
Plot[]
Revelations[]
Kayden was revealed to be Leilah's contact. He first appears to help save Seraphina and Arlo from the other Spectre employees. He teleports them to L39 and is exhausted from it.[2] Upon waking up[3], he reveals the information to them. He talks about how their are members of the organization still after Sera. When Arlo asks if Spectre is associated with EMBER, he denies this, but confirms that EMBER is backed up by the Authorities, which shocks Arlo. Arlo doesn't believe this and Kayden tell him he might want to check his sources. After Seraphina notes that she has theorized this, he refers to her as clever and realizes why Leilah wants her to work with them.[4]
Square One[]
Kayden is sent by Leilah to pick up Seraphina after school. He appears reading a college textbook at the park. Kayden and Seraphina have a short exchange, then teleports her to Leilah's lab, so Leilah can return her ability to her. [5]
Discord[]
Seraphina asked Kayden to meet at Hilford Park. At the park, he questioned about the purpose of their meeting. Seraphina stated that her ability is not getting better (and nearly fainted after activating it). He chastised her for being careless and ignoring Leilah's warning, before they teleported to her lab. Unbeknownst to them, someone tailed on their 'date'. [6]
Escalation[]
At Wellston University, Kayden was discussing the recent exam result with Kuyo. The ponytailed man asked whether they could study together, which he agreed. Their conversation was interrupted by Seraphina, who was looking for Kayden. She complained about unable to reach out to him. A curious Kuyo asked who is she, to which Kayden said she is a "cousin" of his. Taking his "cousin" aside, he chastised Seraphina for showing up out of nowhere. She demanded to be taken to Leilah, regardless whether they are not allowed to talk. They teleported to Leilah's office, right as she talked to Darren.[7]
Leilah scolded Kayden for his impromptu appearance. He argued that he couldn't risk Seraphina being seen by other Spectre employees. He watched on as Leilah explained the misunderstanding between Darren and her sister, before both men being ushered out of the room. Kayden used this opportunity to acquaint himself with Darren. He also took advantage of Doc's genius mind to help with his homework. Later, Leilah tasked him to teleport Seraphina back to her school.[8]
Few days later, a new boba joint opened its branch in Wellston. Kayden attended its grand opening with Kuyo, the two of them were discussing about the upcoming exam. He gushed about Darren's brilliance in simplifying the chemistry for him when Kuyo brought his attention to Seraphina and John in the queue, ordering their own menu. He wondered why Kayden didn't say hi to his "cousin". Kayden replied he had enough of her, and wanted a break. He then realized Seraphina and John were without their abilities and someone stalked them.[9]
Kayden and Kuyo followed the man, only to discover Seraphina and John were at the verge of death. Kuyo threw some blades at the man, intervening his work.[10] He also instructed Kayden to evacuate the teens away from the crime scene, while he fought the bad guy. He complied, but not before sarcastically bid his adieu at the assassin. The three arrived at their destination: Leilah's office. Before she could chastise Kayden for not using the door, she saw who the other people he travelled with. He was about to tell her what happened before he fainted, the exertion of his ability took its toll. Panicking, she contacted Darren despite their recent falling out, the Doc reluctantly agreed to provide his assistance.[11]
When Kayden came to, Leilah was in the middle of explaining the weakness of his ability to Darren, who asked her why Seraphina and John were taken here instead of the hospital. He elaborated on what led to the teens being harmed. His story shook Leilah, and it took Darren grabbing her hand to soothe her. While the gesture was nice, it came across as awkward considering their recent conflict with each other, which Kayden noted. He decided to get some studying done to spend the spare time he had. Unfortunately, it was interrupted by a loud yelling from John, who woke up from his nightmare. Darren stopped his panic attack, saying that he had no qualms leaving the boy rotting on the street. As he calmed down, Leilah introduced herself and recapped the dangers he put himself in for disobeying Seraphina's warning. She then proceeded to order the group some pizzas after a hard day for them.[12]
The food couldn't come soon enough, with everyone being hungry. So much so, when Leilah returned with two boxes of pizzas, Kayden and Darren were salivating. John was unperturbed by the tantalizing temptation of it. He even refused Leilah's offer, his attention remained on Seraphina. As she about to persist, Darren explained to her how close the two were. (Kayden jealously munched his pizza, muttered something about being the odd one out). Soon, Seraphina regained her consciousness. After a brief, yet awkward embrace with John, Leilah briefed the two on Spectre's history. She told them that they were to remain here until they're fully recovered, as she had the final say on having Kayden send the two back to Wellston.[13]
Division[]
Kayden returned to his shared dorm, only to find Kuyo spying on his "cousins". He asked the vigilante on his intentions doing so. Kuyo reasoned that he's still not over the attack on the teens. Kayden didn't fully buy his excuse, but let him be for the time being.[14]
Few days later, Kayden attended the group briefing, led by Seraphina. She explained that with her and John being crippled, they needed to reach out the recovery machine. But after her U-turn back at Rowden, the Spectre executives were less likely to allow them another access to it. Fortunately, Leilah managed to convince the bigwigs to schedule another meeting with Seraphina, with the plan for her to "introduce" John to the organization. From there, the two will undergo an ability-restoring operation, before proceeding to nick the machine alongside Kayden who will sneak into the facility.
The merry band then went on to fine-tune the minute details of the proposed heist. At some point, Kayden specifically told John to conserve his energy once he got his ability back, as copying his ability and transporting the machine would require a lot of manpower. Kayden sent John and Seraphina back to Wellston High so they can dress up to look the part. After securing the suit of choice, the duo reconvened with him at Hilford Park to teleport into the secret Spectre facility.[15]
Kayden would later start doing his part: infiltrating the room where John and Seraphina being sedated. He knocked out some poor scientist, hid his body in the supplies closet, and took his lab coat. Armed with Leilah's access card, he searched for the operation room. After some climbing and navigating done, he found it. [16]
Standing in Kayden's way was the doctor who monitored John and Seraphina. He rebuked Kayden from entering the room. Not that would stop him. Kayden saw enough glimpse of the room to teleport inside. He did so and made sure to put the pseudo-bouncer to sleep, before hiding him in the closet. Now, he only need to wait for John and Seraphina to wake up from their slumber.
Before that happened, a female agent entered the room. She interrogated Kayden about the mechanism of the recovery machine. Due to his terrible bluff, she discovered his identity right away. She choked the life out of Kayden as he desperately tried not to get himself killed. Fortunately, John and Seraphina chose this time to regain their consciousness, the latter rescued Kayden from the female agent.[17]
As they about to make their exit, a male agent attacked them. The teens soon preoccupied by their own foes, leaving Kayden in no man's land. John signaled him to teleport himself with the machine, but the male agent was alerted to their plan. Kayden sensed something's wrong with John and Seraphina's ability. With Seraphina injured by the female agent and John being encased in ice prison because he's distracted, Kayden shocked the male agent with some makeshift electricity. He freed John and told him to bail before teleporting himself and Seraphina out.[18]
Upon their arrival back at Darren's apartment, Seraphina asked everyone where John is. Kayden answered the boy was still at the lab. The reply angered Seraphina, who proceeded to grab him by the collar. She demanded a reasonable explanation to why he did that. Kayden argued they were outpowered and outnumbered, pining the blame on John for not listening to him. She fired back, stating the hypothetical of Orrin getting his hands on her best friend.
After Leilah's attempt on placating Seraphina backfired as she despaired on possibly losing John for good, Kayden got threatened again by the girl, who asked him to bring her back to the lab. Fortunately, before things worsened, the boy in question returned to the safety of the apartment.[19]
