And yet another self-proclaimed "Superhero" falls victim to the consequences of everyday society...

- Seraphina

This is the sixth chapter of unOrdinary'.

Synopsis[]

After diffusing the tussle between Blyke and Isen, Darren returns to the infirmary while dragging the two elite-tiers behind him. The doctor then proceeds to yell at them for causing such a racket in the middle of classes and threatens to send them to Keene. Despite the doctor's threats, Blyke and Isen start to argue again, and Darren is forced to bash their heads together in order to shut them up. Just as Darren was about to explain the consequences of their actions, Gavin crawls into the infirmary and Darren realizes that John and Seraphina have already left, much to his irritation.

At Woaba Boba, John finishes telling Seraphina about his fight with Gavin. She's amused by his ingenuity, but it's no laughing matter to him. Seraphina assumes that the life he leads is exciting, if nothing else. This unwittingly insensitive comment compels John to express his desire for one worry-free break from the routine of constant attacks. He disagreed with society's rule of the higher tiers overpowering the weak, but Seraphina dismisses his vision of listening to the reason of a weakling as utter fantasy. There's a tense moment where John's bold declaration of how fundamentally flawed it is for might to make right is felt like a dig at Seraphina. He thinks privately to himself how, unlike him, she was born powerful. There are daily struggles she has difficulties understanding due to her god-tier status.

Meanwhile, a news program about the insidious EMBER terrorists and their most recent murder comes on television. The murder victim in question is the vigilante X-Static, who was killed in Lovun. Despite the good works performed by deceased vigilante, several boba patrons voice their opinion that people like him should stop attracting trouble with their foolish behavior. When Seraphina concurs with the general consensus that vigilantes too weak for crimefighting should go back to living normal lives after all the deaths, John attempts to defend the vigilante's altruistic actions. But he has no response to Seraphina's question: "Do you feel safer... Now that he's dead?" John has no answer.
