Synopsis[]
In Beatrice’s apartment in Branish, Blyke stands outside the door to the bedroom where Remi & Isenare, and after taking a deep breath, he enters. When they see him, they invite him to come look at a book they’re reading, but the moment Blyke sees them he’s pulled into a flashback as a voice in his mind tells him that they did this to him. As Blyke falls down, they attempt to come to his aid, but he yells at them to get back and swats Remi’s hand away. After calming down, he allows them to come closer, and the three of them hug as Remi apologizes that he had to endure it alone.
Later on, Blyke falls asleep, and Remi & Isen discuss what Blyke has been going through and how exhausted he must be. Remi says that they’ll have to remind Blyke when the flashbacks happen that what he’s seeing isn’t actually real and make sure he doesn’t start believing them. Isen remarks that they may have won a big victory by breaking Blyke out of prison, but that it still feels like no matter what they do, the Bureau manages to screw them in the process. Remi points out that their strategy to to crush their hope, but that the Authorities are the ones who ought to be afraid, giving off sparks as she vows that they won’t be able to use Blyke against them again.
The next morning, Remi, Blyke, Isen, and Kuyo bid farewell to John & Seraphina, who have supplies packed and are ready to report back to Spectre. Isen reminds them to stick to backroads in lower-tier districts to avoid detection and the pair promise to be in touch if they learn anything about Arlo. With Sera’s encouragement, Blyke puts a hand on John’s shoulder and tells him to take care, and John returns the sentiment. As they get in the car, John points out that due to Kassandra’s efforts, Spectre doesn’t have many spies left in the area, so it’s not a sure thing that Neil will have learned anything new about Arlo in the week since they last spoke to him. John suggests that they take the time to investigate themselves while they’re in the area, and Sera reminds John that they’re both wanted and it doesn’t do Arlo any favors if they get captured by the Authorities. John says that all they have to do is find someone and ask a few questions, then leave, prompting Sera to ask who he has in mind.
Later that day, Elaine is walking down the road when she feels an unusual sensation, then suddenly finds herself in an alleyway and is shocked at the sight of John & Sera standing in front of her.
