Synopsis[]
In the heat of battle with the prison guards, Isen has awakened a higher form of his ability, transforming into a beast-like state and freeing himself from Colt’s cage. His pupils have turned into slits, his fingernails and toenails have grown claws, his hair has grown slightly, and his shoulders & wrists now sports black stripes like a tiger, with brown shading on his forearms, calves, and torso. The guards, Colt, Seraphina, and even Isen himself are surprised by his transformation. More guards arrive, and Isen quickly goes on the attack, taking down several in rapid succession. Colt puts another cage around him, much to Isen’s annoyance. Impressed with Isen’s evolution, Sera quickly goes on the attack, taking out the remaining guards flanking Colt. He attempts to put a cage around her, but she evades the attempt and mocks his lack of speed.
Not content to stand idly by, Isen once again claws his cage apart and dodges an attack from behind, landing a strike in return. With Isen able to handle himself against the other guards, Sera is free to focus her attention on Colt. He angrily attempts to confine her, but she evades all of his cages and charges him; stunned by her speed, Colt attempts to stop her in her tracks by putting a wall of thicker bars between them, but Sera breaks through with a single punch and follows up with a barrage of punches to his midsection, then floors him with a kick. Having finished the guards, Isen is shocked by the carnage they’ve caused, and the two head off to meet up with the others.
Back at the entrance to the western wing, John has healed all of his and Kuyo’s injuries. The prison’s healer has gotten some of the guards back on their feet, and John tells Kuyo they need to take their healer out now. Kuyo charges him, but three guards each use their own shield abilities to stop him in his tracks. John jumps on Kuyo’s back, then over the guards and takes one out in midair before taking the healer down, and Kuyo takes the other two guards down as well.
Suddenly, a voice addresses them, and before they can react, John and Kuyo find themselves paralyzed: Tarik has arrived with a squad of guards. Recognizing them as the Wellston fugitives, he mockingly expresses surprise that they’ve showed up to turn themselves in, and one of the guards grows chains out of the ground to further restrain the two. Two other guards move in to attack the pair, but despite not being able to physically move, John is able to emit Lightning in their direction and take them down. He attempts to hit Tarik as well, but two of the guards with him put up a force field that John is unable to penetrate. Kuyo realizes that John is running out of aura and is unable to use his ability while paralyzed. On Tarik’s orders, two other guards fire a barrage of energy beams at John & Kuyo, severely injuring both of them as John attempts to keep healing.
Suddenly, a red energy wave and a lightning bolt are fired past John and Kuyo, breaking through the guards’ shield and forcing Tarik to jump backwards. Looking out at the hallway, Tarik sees that John and Kuyo have disappeared, and Blyke is standing in the hallway grinning at him.
