My grip on reality is slipping.

- Blyke

This is the 356th episode of unORDINARY.

Synopsis[]

At Lovun Prison, Keon has just concluded another session with Blyke. The mentalist informs him that the Bureau has an offer: if Blyke admits that his actions against the Bureau were wrong and works with the Authorities to capture John, Remi, and Isen, he will be recognized as a hero for aiding in the capture of terrorists, exonerated of all charges, and allowed to return to his normal life. Keon tells him this is his last way out and to consider this offer carefully.

At lunch that day, Blyke is beginning to wonder why he should keep protecting the people who left him behind when he is approached by Rein, who notices that his demeanor is much more subdued than when he first arrived. She informs him that she’s going to be released soon, but is annoyed when he doesn’t seem happy for her; Blyke says he’s glad she’s getting out, but that he’s probably going to die in here. Rein offers to contact someone when she gets out, but Blyke stops her before she can say who, reminding her not to tell him anything. Rein suggests that she can get the Bureau to go easy on him, but Blyke says they’ll never consider it. Rein presses Blyke to tell her why they’re really after him, offering to spread the word on the outside if she finds it compelling enough. He warns that they might come after her, but she’s not concerned with that, and Blyke reveals that EMBER, who Rein recognizes from news reports, was actually created by the Bureau in the aftermath of Unordinary’s publication to kill vigilantes inspired by the book to prevent them from overshadowing the Authorities’ influence, and that the media is in on the coverup. Rein is shocked, and doesn’t understand why the Bureau would be so willing to kill off high-tiers, and Blyke says they can afford to lose high-tiers if their abilities can be retained and used by others via conversion technology, and also tells her about EMBER using criminals in low-tier districts as test subjects for ability amplifiers that the Bureau created. Rein realizes that if this information ever went public, it would mean the end of the Bureau. She admits that she’d never believe any of this if she hadn’t gotten mixed up with Spectre, which reminds Blyke to tell her to go see Kayden when she’s released to get her ability back, since the Bureau might refuse to help someone associated with Spectre. Before she can ask how he knows so much, lunch ends, and two guards come to escort Blyke back to his cell.

That night, Blyke sits alone in his cell, plagued by flashbacks of his worst memories of his friends. He tries to snap himself out of it, but can feel that he’s not himself anymore, now constantly thinking the worst about the others. He can feel his grip on reality slipping, and he’s scared that he’ll cave if he stays in prison any longer. Unbeknownst to him, as a thunderstorm rages outside, Kuyo is scaling the side of a guard tower with a rolled up ladder on his back. When he reaches the top, he quickly takes down most of its guards; the last one attempts to radio for backup, but Remi sends an electrical current up the tower and knocks him out before he can do so. Kuyo unrolls the ladder over the side of the tower and John, Seraphina, Remi, and Isen climb up. The group looks down on the prison below, determined to liberate their friend.
