Synopsis[]
In Branish, Beatrice is about to leave for work. She tells Isen and Kuyo to help themselves to whatever’s in the fridge, and heads out. Remi wakes up to a fire alarm and finds Isen and Kuyo in the kitchen dealing with a cooking mishap after the former tried to make eggs. Reluctantly, Isen resigns himself to another breakfast of cereal. While they eat, Kuyo reveals that he heard the two of them leave last night, and Remi reveals they went to Artree, a few towns over. Kuyo says that they have to remember not to draw attention to themselves, since they’ll get reported if anyone recognizes them.
Later that day, Remi visits a restaurant called Yum Yum, disappointed that she hasn’t received any messages from Seraphina. The restaurant owner Quinton approaches her, addressing her by the alias Rosy, and comments on how well their delivery system has worked; since a new crime boss Charlie has begun terrorizing the neighborhood, nobody wants to go out anymore, so the restaurant was losing business, but with Remi’s help delivering orders, they can stay afloat for the time being. He gives her a list of drop-off locations, and Remi eagerly sets out to deliver the orders they’ve received, wearing a mask to hide her face. Upon seeing Charlie’s goons standing near one of the drop-offs, she quickly scales the building on a fire escape to reach the other side via the roof. She stops after delivering at least 4 orders to drink some water, and after checking her phone, hopes that Blyke is still okay.
Elsewhere, Isen & Kuyo are also wearing masks to avoid being recognized while they work at a construction site. When another worker asks if Kuyo is new, he says that he’s trying to bring home some extra money because his mother is ill, and the other worker commends him, saying that when the Bureau won’t help them, they have to help each other. Isen carries some concrete blocks to blend in with other workers, while Kuyo and the other worker carry steel beams across the site. Suddenly, Isen notices a crane rope about to snap, and it drops its load of wooden sheets, sending them falling towards a pair of workers below. Remembering how he couldn’t help Blyke, Isen quickly rushes over and carries them both out of the way just in time. The other workers come to check on the two Isen saved, and he brushes it off as adrenaline.
That night, Beatrice comes home and Remi hands her the money that the three of them earned, insisting that she needs it with 3 extra mouths to feed. Grateful for them, she prepares a feast for dinner that night. The four of them all enjoy the meal, but Beatrice is forced to step away when Ian knocks to collect Charlie’s weekly payment. While she’s away, Remi gets a text from Sera, who has arrived on the roof with the party.
