- Kassandra

This is the 353rd episode of unORDINARY.

Synopsis[]

Keon is sitting at a table outside a café when Kassandra approaches him. She greets him with a handshake and the two begin discussing Spectre. Keon informs Kass that Spectre initially began recruiting by looking for neglected and vulnerable children, typically high-rankers, who have undergone traumatic experiences and teaching them that the destruction of the current societal system will lead to a better life for everyone. While meticulous and lengthy, the process works, molding these children into loyalists who are willing to die for Spectre’s cause. He also reveals that Spectre has numerous organic followers hiding in plain sight. Kass asks what is so appealing in their messaging; Keon states that Spectre’s pitch is to restructure the natural order to redistribute power to all facets of society, and Kass wonders if that’s what they’re truly after. Recalling what he’s seen of Kass through the memories of others, Keon asks her why she’s working on Spectre at all, and she explains that it’s a collaboration with the Anti-Terrorism Department, but also informs him that her true goal is to eliminate all corruption within the Bureau. Keon deduces that she didn’t just call him to ask about Spectre, and Kass states that as a readjustment instructor, he wants to give teens a chance at a future despite their crimes, and that EMBER’s executions of vigilantes without due process can’t be in line with what he stands for, and also points out that he agreed to meet with her despite having already seen her in others’ memories. Keon responds only to her point on EMBER, deflecting the question by claiming that he is only concerned with his own responsibilities, and whatever opinion he might have on EMBER doesn’t matter. Kass asks if, given that, she can trust that he won’t stand in the way of her objective, and he states that he is too busy with his own work to get involved with hers. Satisfied, Kass thanks him and suggests they stay in touch, but Keon declines and leaves.

In Branish, Isen is woken by a nightmare of Blyke being killed by an EMBER agent. He goes upstairs to check on Remi, but finds her room empty and her window open. Using his ability to trace her energy, Isen follows her. He finds her using her Lightning from a rooftop to strike down a group of amped thugs that had surrounded a pair of rookie vigilantes while remaining unseen. She admits that she doesn’t know what to do, and that all the new vigilantes can’t survive on their own, especially without knowing about EMBER and the ability amplifiers, but that she can’t show herself due to being a fugitive. She also confesses that she’s wondered if it would’ve been better if she was captured too so that Blyke wouldn’t have to suffer alone. Isen reassures her that they were rookies once too, and that the Authorities are scared of them and what they know, so they have to stay free to keep them on their toes. He reminds her that Blyke is tough, and that he can handle himself, and she seems comforted.
