Oh, I don't plan to stick around that long.
- Keene
This is the 338th episode of unORDINARY.
Synopsis[]
Keene has arrived in his hijacked police vehicle and blown up one of the other cars, bringing the convoy to a halt and prompting Kassandra to confront him. The car he blew up has flipped over, and Byron’s car has also crashed into a guardrail; while Byron himself is relatively unharmed, the driver of the car, Mason, has sustained a serious head injury and is unconscious. After applying a tourniquet to Mason’s forehead, Byron turns his attention to Keene, who he recognizes from Vaughn’s home. He notes that Keene seems to be able to detect the presence of those within a certain distance of him and lay down explosions like a minefield, and realizes that the officers have to be careful of how they maneuver around him. Another officer attempts to radio for backup, but Keene senses this and hits her with a mine blast before she can relay their location. Kassandra tells her driver to stay in the car, knowing that Keene won’t blow up the vehicle as long as Vaughn is inside it, while noticing Vaughn’s disappointed expression indicating that this wasn’t part of the former Headmaster’s plan.
Kassandra warns Keene that his actions are going to put him in prison, but Keene states he only intends to stick around long enough to ensure Vaughn’s release, after which they will both leave. Kassandra notes that while Keene’s ability allows him control over the area around him, hers does the same, and begins scattering her particles around the area. As Keene observes this, another officer attempts to take advantage of the distraction to hit Keene from behind, but Keene senses the attack and avoids it, and Kassandra realizes that sudden movements like that will only alert Keene to their location. Keene slams the officer’s face into the ground, then detonates a blast directly underneath him. Kassandra throws a few spears at Keene, who manages to dodge them, but is hit in the left shoulder by an energy beam from another officer. Keene detonates a blast underneath Kassandra to distract her and rushes the officer who grazed him, causing him to move backward directly into a mine blast; however, the mine is blocked by Byron’s vines and Kassandra manages to use her particles to evade the blast underneath her and block a kick Keene attempts to land on the unnamed officer’s head. Keene is forced to dodge several more spears from Kassandra, who then jumps into the air and attempts to bring a giant particle fist down on him, but Keene manages to summon a blast to cancel out the blow. Complimenting her prowess, he then re-engages her, with each one managing to dodge several attacks from the other until Byron grows several vines from the ground behind Keene to restrain the rogue late-bloomer.
Bryon formally places Keene under arrest for defying the Bureau, assaulting their officers, and the attempted kidnapping of Vaughn. Sighing to himself, Vaughn realizes he can no longer sit back and watch, and exits the car. He emits a telekinetic wave that catches Kassandra and Byron off guard, giving Keene the opportunity to tear Byron’s vines and free himself. Vaughn chastises Keene for forcing his hand, and Keene responds that he saved Vaughn. Kassandra attempts to subdue them, but the former headmaster effortlessly dispels her attack with a telekinetic barrier. Vaughn apologizes and states that while he had intended to take a peaceful approach, the Bureau will be less inclined to be lenient after this, so they now have no option but to leave. Expressing condolences to any officers they’ve lost, Vaughn and Keene flee in one of the police vehicles. Kassandra attempts to take action, but Byron stops her, as the two of them are no match for his power. Byron says they should let the incoming backup handle Vaughn and Keene, while they tend to the wounded, a majority of whom are injured. Kassandra agrees, but notes the richness of such a sentiment coming from a killer like him.
That evening, Vaughn’s predecessor at Wellston High, former headmistress Sylvia, receives a call from a Bureau contact of hers named Emmit. Emmit informs her that Vaughn has been removed from his post, and requests that she act as interim Headmistress until the Bureau finds a permanent replacement. Sylvia gladly agrees to lend the Bureau a hand.
