Synopsis[]
Arriving at his “modest” hideout apartment, Grayson notices that he received an alert, but nobody told him they planned to stop by. Upon entering, he is immediately attacked by Kuyo, but the wounded vigilante relents upon realizing who Grayson is. Grayson then asks what Kuyo is doing there.
At the Safe House, Arlo has the beginning of Untitled on his phone screen. He thinks to himself that Kassandra wants to earn a promotion to the Anti-Terrorism Department and investigate EMBER herself, and that as things stand, she’s the only one in the Bureau he can trust, but is unsure that his words alone can convince her that EMBER is hidden within the Bureau. Remi then enters the Safe House, and Arlo realizes that while he might not have proof, she might, and asks to speak with her after school.
Later on, Remi asks Arlo if he has work today, but he tells her he’s taken some time off as the Bureau hasn’t inspired him much recently; Remi says she’s sorry to hear that, but Arlo knows she doesn’t mean it. He asks if she has any proof that EMBER is part of the Bureau, saying that he wants to forward it to his boss so she can begin an internal investigation. However, Remi points out that the same boss is also trying to remove Headmaster Vaughn from his post, and is hesitant to show her cards to someone she can’t trust, directly asking if Arlo is trying to help or hurt them. Arlo vouches fro Kassandra’s character and gives Remi her card, imploring her to consider. Before Remi can decide, she receives a phone call and rushes off.
At the apartment hideout, Kuyo is meditating on Grayson’s couch, which as a result has his blood on it, much to Grayson’s irritation. Remi, Blyke, and Isen then arrive, and Kuyo greets them, relieving Remi that he is alright. Kuyo informs the group that Brims came after him at his dorm with two other officers and tried to kill him. Grayson expresses confusion, and the others inform him that Brims is an EMBER agent and that EMBER was created by the Bureau; Grayson doesn’t believe that the Bureau would be behind EMBER, but is convinced after seeing Kuyo’s recorded evidence. Shocked, Grayson wonders if anyone in the Bureau can be of help, knowing that not everyone in the Bureau would be okay with this. Remi mentions Arlo’s boss, but isn’t sure whether or not to trust Kassandra; Kuyo recognizes the name, as well as her photo on the card Arlo gave Remi, and reveals that Kassandra was a mentor to him and Rei, and that he trusts her. Isen remains skeptical, worried she might rebuff or double-cross them, but Blyke points out that they have to act before it’s too late. Remi agrees to take the chance, knowing that just sending information shouldn’t be too risky. Kuyo asks if there’s anything else to add, and Remi asks Isen if he still has the recording of their first encounter with Volcan, which he confirms. Remi states that they’re down to the wire, and that this had better work.
