Synopsis[]
Having been summoned to the Headmaster’s office over the loudspeaker, John enters the waiting room and sees Cameron. Recognizing him from Adrion’s description of the man in his father’s house, John demands to know who he is and what happened to his father. Vaughn enters and informs John that the man is his uncle, and steps into the hallway to give the two some privacy. Cameron introduces himself, but is taken aback when John tells him to get to the point. Cameron bluntly tells John that his father was murdered by 2 Bureau officers last week; refusing to believe it, John attempts to attack Cameron, but the older man restrains John first, calling him an ill-behaved brat and saying William did a disgraceful job raising him. John defends his father, stating that he was there when his mother wasn’t, and Cameron warns him to watch what he says about her, but John blames her for everything that’s befallen him and his father; Cameron angrily yells that John has no idea what his mother has sacrificed for him, and gives John some pieces of paper before leaving, telling him to call when he’s ready to behave better.
In the hallway, Cameron expresses annoyance with John’s attitude, calling him a pain in the ass and stating that nobody has ever spoken to him that way before. Vaughn observes that children aren’t Cameron’s strong suit, telling him that patience is key and asking if he considered how John would be affected by the news he brought, but Cameron responds that he’ll consider the boy’s feelings when he starts acting his age before leaving. Vaughn returns inside and allows John to take as much time as he needs off from school.
In his dorm later, John holds the manuscript of Unordinary he was given by his father when he last visited, in tears over his father’s death and furious at the Bureau for taking away the last family he had. Looking through the papers his uncle gave him, he finds a letter from his mother to his father, and upon reading it, learns that Jane sacrificed her freedom to protect her husband and son from the Authorities, and realizes that his father re-released Unordinary as an act of revenge against them. Devastated, he also sees the business card his uncle gave him with his contact info, but makes no attempt to call Cameron.
