Synopsis[]
At the Safe House, John takes a nap while other students discuss recent events, including Arlo’s recent TV appearance and the lack of updates about EMBER despite such fast action on Spectre. Evie approaches Remi and mentions that they still haven’t been told what happened to Terrence after he was arrested, adding that the Authorities scare her sometimes. Dylan agrees, pointing out how they use fancy words to distract from their withholding information. Dylan says his family has been nervous about EMBER since they appeared and is glad he can get away from all the nervous energy at the Safe House. Remi says she knows what Dylan means.
That night in Portsville, a vigilante attempts to escape a group of criminals, unsure why they’re so much stronger than his research indicated they would be, but despite his efforts they catch up to him and begin beating him up. However, he is saved by the intervention of Kuyo and Remi, dressed in their vigilante disguises, along with an energy snipe from Blyke who remains on a nearby rooftop with Isen and comments that they’ve encountered several new vigilantes in the past week after barely meeting any before that. Stunned by how easily Kuyo and Remi defeated the criminals, the rookie vigilante explains after prompting from Kuyo that he’s unhappy with things and that the Authorities have failed to act in response to EMBER, and now have Spectre to deal with, and that it never felt right to stand back and do nothing while so many terrible things happen around them. He reveals that he finally managed to build the guts to take action after reading Untitled. Kuyo tells him to either find someone to help him or wait until he’s stronger before coming back out; however, the vigilante asks if he can join their group and learn from them.
Later that night, Remi, Blyke, and Isen discuss the vigilante they met: Grayson, a third year student at Agwin High School. His records rank him as the 7th strongest student at Agwin with a level of 3.7, to which Blyke remarks at that level, he won’t last long if he keeps going out on his own. Wondering why they’ve encountered so many vigilantes, Remi recalls that Grayson mentioned reading Untitled, and Isen quickly finds it online; however, upon seeing it, Remi immediately recognizes that it’s actually Unordinary. Blyke asks why someone would publish it under a different name knowing it would spread faster under its original name, but Isen says that the Bureau could find and shut it down just as quickly, and that leaving it untitled makes it harder to trace. Blyke wonders why someone would risk leaking it at all; Remi thinks they’re a fan of the vigilantes, but Isen believes it’s a declaration of war against the Authorities.
In New Bostin, William buys groceries from Adrion at U-Mart. Later, at his home, he is putting his groceries away when he hears a knock at the door. When he opens it, he is faced with a blue-haired man and red-haired woman, and asks what they’re doing here.
