THEY'RE TOO STRONG!
FALL BACK!
- Orders Rein gets blamed for
This is the 316th episode of unORDINARY.
Synopsis[]
Arlo and Kassandra have been relieved in their battle against Spectre by the arrival of a group of Bureau officers led by Valerie. Kassandra tells Arlo that she told him they’d be fine, but coughs in pain; at Arlo’s request, a healer tends to the two of them.
Valerie has used her ability to create a wall of interlocking diamond barriers to shield the Bureau officers from the group of Spectre operatives. Candice wonders when they called for backup, and Liam launches a tandem attack with a purple-haired Spectre operative with an energy-based ability, but the assault has no effect on Valerie’s barrier wall. Another Bureau officer quickly scales the wall and uses his ability to throw several energy blasts at the group of Spectre operatives, giving him an opening to deliver powerful punches to two of their chests simultaneously, bringing both of them to their knees. The purple-haired operative attempts to attack him, but Valerie propels a single diamond barrier through her attack, dispelling it and sending her crashing into a wall with enough force to knock her unconscious. Orrin realizes the battle cannot be won, and still speaking through Rein, orders the others to retreat before returning his consciousness to his own body and ordering another subordinate to wipe all the data and evacuate the building.
In the lobby, Valerie has captured two of Spectre’s operatives in diamond barriers. Noticing Liam and Candice fleeing, she orders the three other officers to pursue and be wary of traps. As they give chase, the healer informs her that the rest of the team has arrived, and upon their entry, Valerie orders one squad to sweep the building and capture any terrorists on sight and the other squad to secure the entrance to prevent anyone from escaping. Rein, now in control of herself once more, regains consciousness, but is immediately detained in one of Valerie’s barriers. Scared, she asks Kassandra what’s going on; Kassandra attempts to vouch for Rein, but Valerie, unaware of Orrin’s possession of her, is unconvinced.
Later on, Arlo and Kassandra are in Wellston Hospital recovering from their injuries. Arlo regrets not anticipating that Spectre would have a trap prepared for investigators, and knows that without the information he already had going in, neither of them would’ve made it out in one piece. Even after all the years he’s spent training his defenses, Arlo was unable to hold off their attackers, and admits that he still has a long way to go, needing more variation and versatility with his ability like his aunt. Attempting to test this, he accidentally knocks over a vase.
In her own hospital room, Kassandra recalls seeing Candice use multiple abilities. She is then visited by Valerie, who comes bearing a gift basket. Kassandra thanks her and says she’s feeling much better. Valerie informs Kassandra that Orrin escaped and that Spectre wiped all their data before leaving, but that several guards and researchers were captured, and that they should be able to track him down. Kassandra vows to be thorough in her report to prevent any delays, but Valerie reveals that the higher-ups have chosen Kassandra to lead the Spectre investigation. Valerie tells an elated Kassandra that the opportunity is will deserved, and Kassandra vows not to let her down. Kassandra also tells Valerie that Arlo saved her life and she couldn’t have done any of it without his help, asking for him to assist with Spectre as well. Valerie gladly agrees to place the request.
