Synopsis[]
After making short work of the receptionist and the "janitor", Arlo and Kassandra take down some poor scientists to steal their lab coat. Arlo wonders if it's okay to leave them be. Kassandra reasons that they are currently weak due to the dampener, so their focus right now is to remain as covert as possible. She reminisces the prior investigation, where the "janitor" refused to betray his benefactor, while also made his bitter resentment towards Authorities known. His unwavering loyalty gave her the creeps.
Arlo breaks Kassandra out of her reverie by pointing out the complex nature of the level they're currently in. He suggests for them to go to the control room first, so they can find their way out from there. She asks on the time it took for the dampener to wear off, which he says is about an hour. Acknowledging they might be in danger once everyone find out they're on the loose, Kassandra tells him to remain in close quarter. Worst come to worst, they each possess a disabler. Arlo hopes they won't reach that point.
Hiding behind the wall, Arlo queries Kassandra whether her ability had any luck finding something. She affirms, despite its limitation. They approach the control room and manage to wipe out the surveillance team. They receive an intermission from the handler, who questions the team's status. Arlo corresponds by stating everything is under control. Secretly, the handler is suspicious of the voice and sends in an agent to eliminate any doubts left.
Rein arrives at the control room, and she is surprised at Arlo's presence. She remembers the humiliation she suffered at his hand. She quickly goes on the offensive, forcing him to defend himself. He doesn't have the chance to retaliate, not even to inject her with the disabler, as she reaches him and tries to choke to life out of him. Rein taunts him on having a taste of his own medicine, before Kassandra intervenes.
Arlo inquires Rein of her intention being here, only for her to return the question to him. She attacks him again, and just when it seems he's about to be defeated, Kassandra reinforces his Barrier. She questions him on their attacker's identity, prompting him to explain his shared past with the girl. She mentally chastises him on his penchant for putting a target on his back, then tries to interrogate Rein. The agent rebuffs her attempt to make peace, prompting the investigator to introduce herself and promising to free her from the shackles of the organization.
