This is the 276th episode of unORDINARY.
Synopsis[]
Leilah mentally reviews the situation. The assassin had to have been working on behalf of Orrin. It fit his style of doing everything in his power to bend her to his insatiable will. Working her to death and trying to keep her in line by repeatedly targeting Sera. She had hoped to see the last of controlling overseers after running away from home. But Orrin's machinations were bearable in the name of unifying Spectre. Things changed. Trying to kill Seraphina made Leilah want to repay him in kind.
The group's pizza could not have arrived sooner for Darren and Kayden. But John had eyes only for Seraphina, who still hadn't woken up. Leilah invites John to eat something, but he wouldn't be pulled away from his vigil. Darren explains that the two of them did most everything together, while Kayden had a slice all by his lonesome. John didn't have long to wait, for Seraphina came to and sat up. John called out her nickname and pulled into a tight embrace. In his zeal, he forgot that doing so to an injured person wasn't the best idea. Still smarting, Seraphina asked how they made it out of that mess with their lives. John points to the three saviors behind them. Leilah asks how she's faring. Seraphina responds that it could be worse, considering that they weren't supposed have survived their unfortunate encounter. She's quick to figure out that this came about because of her insubordination problem. Leilah sadly informs the high schoolers that there's plenty more doom down the road for them. It's imperative that they be protected until their abilities could be restored. Knowledge on Spectre could help on that front, so she suggests that they ask about anything that comes to mind.
Keon enters the office of his superior, inquiring what he's needed for. The matter at hand, he replies, concerns the Spectre boy who tragically drowned while in their custody a short while ago. Clearly, their investigation was getting too close for comfort for somebody. As the leading Spectre expert on hand, it fell to Keon to share what sparse information he managed to glean. Spectre has only been around for a short while, yet in that time it has managed to develop one of the country's leading operations. Three individuals (known only as "Orrin", "Miranda", and "Neil") lead one faction each. Even the late agent Keon interrogated had little information on these executives, leaving them unable to confirm something as simple as what their real names are. But crucial intel on the territories where they conduct their activities are finally in the hands of the Authorities. Spectre's focus centered around high-tiers. Their people work to steal technology directly from the government, with the theft in Arcwood being one such instance. They've managed to harness the means of forcing high-tiers to do their bidding. The populations within each territory range from sparse to dense, which ties proportionally to the danger. The exception is Zone 3, thanks to an abundance of dangerously strong targets residing there. Keon advises his superior that all zones, especially the last one, be closely monitored with response teams on standby.
John and Seraphina listen as Leilah shares the details of how she came to work under Orrin. Her true leader was Neil, who manages affairs to the north. He had sent her to Wellston to investigate a rising upset in the balance of power among the executives. As they had suspected, Orrin had been busy secretly building up a personal army of high-tiers. By now, he had complete control of the most influential branch of Spectre, and he planned to put himself in charge of the whole organization. John wonders how Orrin managed to accomplish that so quickly. Seraphina theorizes that he had the advantage of working in the right area. Wellston University, Wellston High, and even their Agwin High rivals are veritable treasure trove of mighty soldiers and servants to add to his collection. Seeing that their upended lives was just the start of a major plan, John wants to know what Orrin's endgame is. Leilah suggests that that mystery ought to be put on hold. They needed to hide from Orrin's many eyes and ears. When their injuries heal, they'd be escorted to their school. They would not set foot off campus without her or Kayden's sayso. Right now, Seraphina's plan of stealing the Recovery Machine was their best shot.
Keon finishes his report with one last note: Seraphina. He had headaches dealing with her before, but she's since delved further into criminal activities by joining Spectre. The Wellston head tells him that any evidence on the matter taken from their dead prisoner just wouldn't be substantial enough. Keon assures him that they could nail her for her direct involvement in the Arcwood NXGen Heist. Satisfied, the chief prepares to officially denounce Spectre as a terrorist organization.
