Synopsis[]
Darren arrives to see Leilah rewinding the wounds of Seraphina and her friend. He wonders what in the world happened.
Leilah thanks Darren for coming to her assistance, despite what happened between them. He sardonically replies this isn't his first time treating the kids. He asks about Kayden, curious about why he didn't bring the kids to the hospital. Leilah answers that his ability has its limit; namely the fact that his ability consumes more power the further he goes and the more people he brings. The man in question wakes up, and Leilah questions him on the occasion. Kayden proceeds to recount the events: he saw Seraphina and John at the new cafe, being followed by "some ice assassin" who made an attempt on their life. He has no idea who send the assassin, but Leilah thanks him regardless for the intervention. Seeing her composure faltering, Darren instinctively grabs her hand to calm her down. He pulls his hand, apologizes to her for his habit, only to leave them a flustered, awkward mess.
While Kayden thinks about how he is going to explain all this to Kuyo, Leilah caught Darren staring at her. He awkwardly looks away, with her secretly enjoying his flustered reaction. Meanwhile, John is having a nightmare at the previous event; this time no one is there to stop the assassin from killing Seraphina. It jolts him awake, and he quickly rushes to his friend's side. Darren tries to assure him that she is fine, but in his panicked state, John elbows him away. Darren parries it, and he menacingly tells the kid he should've left rotten in the street. John is surprised to see him, asks the room where and who are they. Leilah recognizes him as the one she heard of very much and proceeds to explain everything to him. John realizes the warnings Seraphina gave him were right all along, with Leilah pointing out someone within Spectre is targeting him too. He thinks on how everything supposed to quiet down after what happened in Rowden, with him already made peace with his state of ability or lack thereof, only for the illusion to be shattered. Leilah offers to hide him, but he rejects it, instead asking if there is any way to recover his ability.
