Synopsis[]
Seraphina and John are walking along, weighing the pros and cons of the local Boba place vs Woaba Boba. It comes to their attention that a stream of water is flowing their way. Too late they realize it's no plumbing issue. John is quickly knocked out.
By the time be wakes up again, his hands and feet are frozen to the ground. His attention is drawn to the user of the ability used to ambush and immobilize him. That same ability was in the process of being used to bind and drown Seraphina! John is mortified and confused, and he struggles to get up and help his friend. He's stuck too good to break free without some sort of edge. So John concentrates like he's never concentrated before. Power thought to be gone flickers within his aura channels and gives him the strength to rise. John rushes the assailant and punches him. But while his blow does dispel the ice and water enveloping Seraphina, John becomes aware that the killer's timely shift to a liquid form protected him from any real harm. The assassin changes back and subjects John to the same execution method he had been using on Seraphina in retaliation for the interference. But she also goes on the attack the minute she catches her breath. The results are the same, and Seraphina quickly realizes they can't delay him for much longer.
As a matter of fact, the assassin freezes both students in place in no time at all. Seraphina demands an explanation, only to be ignored. Angry that they wouldn't go down quietly, this murderous water man eschews drowning in favor of skewering the two of them with huge shards of ice. Critically wounded, they both collapse. John struggles to stay awake, only having the strength to watch helplessly as Seraphina bleeds out. The assassin turns his forearm into a blade of ice and prepares to put his targets down for good. But his weapon is shattered with a thrown blade made of energy. He turns and sees Kuyo and Kayden, who are intent on thwarting his mission.
