- Seraphina

This is the 271st episode of unORDINARY.

Synopsis[]

With the customary touching of gloves, the sparring match between father and son is set to begin. Outside the ring is Seraphina, who's excited to spectate. John recounts that their last bout was a while ago, but he hasn't forgotten not to underestimate the skill of his old man. William throws the first punch. John parries and takes the opportunity to counter only for his own punch to miss the mark by centimeters. After nimbly dodging, William socks John with his next punch and tells him not to take it so easy during the match. Seraphina cheers from the sidelines, commending William on the maneuver. The doubly-annoyed John insists that she not cheer the guy who hurt him, which gets him a "better luck next time" in response.

The fight resumes, with John wondering how he'll bypass his father's defenses. He tries a punch, and while William blocks it John pivots and immediately follows up with an elbow attack. It connects, but William's stance isn't broken. John gets knocked off balance by a sweeping leg and is pinned to he floor. He barely manages to dodge William's next punch before kicking him away. Both father and son are wearing down. But William bounces back first, and surprises John yet again by grabbing him and throwing him to the ground again. This time, William manages to score a direct hit on John's face. William enjoys the thrill of the fight, while John is less enthused.

Seraphina watches the whole thing in awe. Being so used to John having the upper hand, she marvels at how easily William dominates the match. William asks if John's too tired to keep up. Taking this as a challenge, John finds the strength to give it another go. The two of them engage in a series of trading blows, neither one managing to best the other for some time. Seraphina notes that John seems to have broken free of the miasma that's been oppressing him since his suspension ended. It would seem that sparring is just the pick-me-up he needed. She can't help but be happy for him.

Spotting an opening, John tries an uppercut. William doesn't dodge in time, but he holds strong. John doesn't take William's kick to his face nearly as well. In an instant, John is lying face up on the mat. He's frustrated for being so out of practice. But William tells him that he fought exceptionally, and calls it a match.

Next up, William teaches Seraphina a couple of tricks. John's rigorous solo training catches their attention. Seraphina takes comfort in the focus her friend displays.

Evening comes, and it's time for William to part ways again. Seraphina asks if they can't enjoy his company for a little while longer. William regretfully says that he's got a very busy schedule ahead of him, but promises that they'll definitely catch up in the future. John urges his father not to push himself too hard in his endeavors. William takes him aside for another father-son chat. He tells him how proud he is to see how far he's come. It isn't the first time John's heard him say that, and it's still as sappy as ever. William tells John that his ability may have been a heavy burden, but he should still hold it close to him. After all, it was a parting blessing from his mother. John wasn't expecting to hear that, as his dad never brought her up before. William confides that she's been on his mind in recent days, but John struggles to understand why. After one more group hug, William leaves to clean himself up.

Far off in Lovun, a pair of disguised individuals quietly storm the prison holding Terrence.
