That's awkward...

- John upon finding out he's the only one gravely injured

This is the 264th episode of unORDINARY and the last episode of the Infiltration Arc.

Synopsis[]

Rowden Hill[]

11:33 AM[]

John judo-flips Terrence onto his back before taking a moment to catch his breath. Terrence barely has time to do the same, as John begins firing powerful beams his way. Clearly, the disabler injection didn't end the fight.

11:34 AM[]

Back at the Safe House escort, Blyke notices that their enemies are looking a lot more nervous. Isen realizes something even better.

11:35 AM[]

The Jack finds his sensory range is back to normal. He tells his King that the time limit on their nerfs are up. Their attackers begin to retreat, but the Wellston Royals are having none of that. Blyke softens them up with a flurry of finger beams while Isen leaps from above and shakes things up by slamming the ground they stood on.

11:40 AM[]

Seraphina runs ahead up the trail, with Remi and Arlo barely managing to keep up in their current condition. The three arrive to see the aftermath of the attack. In spite of the mess they were led into, Blyke and Isen cleaned up well. Safe House was hurt, rattled, and very confused, but alive. Seraphina's relief turns to dread when she notices the accursed drugs laying on the ground. There were two, one meant for Blyke, and the other for somebody else that Spectre expected. As the group prepares to evacuate, Seraphina calls everyone's attention and asks for John's whereabouts.

Elsewhere, Terrence can't make a quick getaway. Using Invisibility to conceal himself and his team really took a lot out of him. A shame too, since there was a not-quite disabled high-tier out for his blood. A bunch of Homing Beams close in on Terrence, who decides that the only recourse was evasive action. John would eventually collapse, allowing him to escape unharmed. It was a sound strategy, as John's senses were growing duller by the moment. But he was determined to make Terrence pay for everything he had done, and turns his hunt into a running fight. He conserves his energy by shooting smaller shots at his mark, which connect with all four limbs. With Terrence subdued, John puts all the power he has left in taking his revenge. He repeatedly punches Terrence in the face until the disabler finally takes its toll. John goes limp, and starts collapsing. His fall is broken by the timely arrival of his best friend, who cradles him in her arms. Seraphina's immediate concern is whether he was injected. John wants to know whether everybody else was safe first. Seraphina confirms their well-being, which John remarks was a far cry from how he wound up. He passes out, and a desperate Seraphina tries to wake him up. She was beside herself with despair. Just when John had begun to embrace a positive outlook on his ability, Spectre takes it away. It couldn't get much worse than that.

Seraphina turns a burning glare towards Terrence, who is still conscious despite John's best efforts. Coughing blood, he sees Seraphina just as she's grabbing him by the collar. She tells him that he's got one chance to explain himself. With a smile, he responds that the matter was pretty straightforward: by his hand, John got disabled. But he elaborates on the bigger picture. Seraphina was never meant to be part of the Spectre family. She was a high-tier, who had to be forced into compliance because it was obvious she would never do so willingly. Terrence reveals that all her attempts at subterfuge were obvious to them, and that punishing her infractions by luring John into a trap was simplicity itself. Terrence proudly takes credit for John's ultimate undoing by "accidentally" turning his attention to Safe House that day. Seraphina determines that John was the real target all along, and squeezes the syringe full of disabler she still has. Terrence sarcastically commends Seraphina for trying to get him out of harm's way, but states that his arrogance only led him into servitude to Spectre. Before he can finish saying "There's nothing you can do about it," Seraphina plunges the syringe into his neck and gives him a full dose of Disabler and kicks him while he's dazed. She decides that her earlier belief about not wanting her fate to befall others was wrong, and her new goal was to see Spectre wiped out.

Wellston Hospital[]

The next day[]

John comes to in a hospital bed. He notices a bouquet of flowers to his left, complete with a card from Safe House wishing him a speedy recovery. He sits up, and is surprised by how painful it is to do so. Just as he's wondering what he's missed, he turns to his right and sees a familiar figure bent over his bedside. It's Seraphina, having fallen asleep right next to him.
