The times have really changed.

This is the 237th chapter of unORDINARY.

Synopsis[]

Arlo walks down the hall and sees John looking at him expectantly. Arlo tries to walk past him without a word, but John insists on knowing about his secret chat with Seraphina. Arlo points out that it wouldn't be secret if he went around blabbing about it, and refused to share details. John pleads for some sort of explanation regarding her unusual behavior, to which Arlo suggests going straight to the source. John isn't happy about being left in the dark. He begins to suspect that those two were colluding on something, just like Claire had back at New Bostin. Then he remembers that none of that actually happened, and grounds himself in reality. John is about to try asking him again, but is interrupted. Two students corner Arlo to learn if rumors of his decision to join the Safe House trip after all were true. When he claims to have found the time to do so, they express their joy and insist on going over the details of his schedule for the downtime. John makes a mental note of the fact that Safe House had a field trip in the works.

Blyke returns to Wellston after his suspension, getting reacquainted with the hustle and bustle of school life. He returns many greetings sent his way, but fails to take notice of everybody's excited whispering. When he finally enters Room 224, he's surprised by a party being held in his honor. Blyke learns from Remi that he has been crowned as the new King of Wellston. He can't believe his ears, but is told by Isen that John abdicated the throne, and Arlo didn't take it back. Although Blyke is unsure of his readiness for the job, Evie, Alden and all the other Safe House members express their faith in him. Their confidence rubs off on him, and puts a smile on his face. In honor of the occasion, Roland baked and decorated a cake that amazes Blyke. Soon everybody lines up to partake in the sweet treat. Unbeknownst to the others, Terrence quietly eyes the ballot box that'll determine big things to come.

That evening, Blyke, Isen and Remi discuss the surprising tie vote on what the club should do in Rowden. Blyke and Remi agree to head one activity each, so that everybody can enjoy themselves under their supervision. When they reach Blyke's dorm, they run into John. To everybody's dismay, he would be rooming with Blyke again. Blyke scowls and heads to his room to unpack, followed by his friends. That moment, John's text to Seraphina asking to spend time together gets a reply. Once again, she's too busy. Steeling himself, he calls out to the trio and asks about joining the field trip he's heard about. Blyke flat-out refuses, but Remi is inclined to ask why John wants to come. He vaguely answers that it might be something he'll regret sitting out on. Remi tells him that they couldn't abide his presence in good conscience. She reminded him that the club members were still deathly afraid of him, but John called unfair exclusion. To that, Remi gave John his one and only shot: fully integrate himself with Safe House, then he might be able to join the trip. Blyke and Isen were not okay with this, but it was John's answer she is waiting for. He chooses not to answer, and turns in for the night.
