Summary[]

In his office, Headmaster Vaughn questions a nervous Blyke on how he got his hands on the ability amplifier, and asks him whether the vial was the last of it, while Keene looks on. A sheepish Blyke truthfully responds affirmatively to the latter question. Blyke sighs despondently and answers the former question, informing Vaughn of his vigilante activities in low-tier districts, and how he found the vial on one of the criminals but didn’t know what to do with it, so kept it with himself. Vaughn reprimands Blyke for the danger he put himself in, telling him that EMBER was out to kill people like him. Blyke profusely apologizes and tells the headmaster that he wouldn’t do something so thoughtless again, while internally hoping he wouldn’t be expelled. Vaughn asks Blyke if his identity was discovered by anyone, and Blyke is uneasily reminded of the restaurant incident with Remi and Isen, where the footage of his battles was being broadcasted. Vaughn reiterates the question, and Blyke responds that during one of his fights, some bystanders recorded footage and broadcasted it. However, he recalls that it had poor resolution, and so his face would be unrecognizable to anyone who didn’t know him personally. After reminding Blyke of the amount of trouble he was in, Vaughn told Blyke that he appreciated his honesty, but he would be punished for sneaking in dangerous substances into school. Blyke hangs his head and vows to accept any punishment that comes his way, but he requests Vaughn to allow him to help Remi in rebuilding the Safe House after the fateful incident that happened to it on Friday, before he faced his punishment. Vaughn remarks that Blyke seemed to care a lot about the Safe House. Blyke responds affirmatively, telling Vaughn that it needed to be in Wellston a long time ago. This answer greatly pleases Vaughn, and he agrees to Blyke’s request, much to Blyke’s ecstasy.

Outside the office, Remi asks Blyke how the interrogation went. Blyke tells her that it went better than he had hoped, and that he would be able to rebuild the safe-house with her. Blyke pauses and sadly asks Remi if she is still angry with him because he stupidly brought ability amplifiers to school. Remi pauses as well, and then proceeds to blame herself for not realizing how much the current situation was troubling Blyke. She reassures Blyke that he is very strong, and he doesn’t need amplifiers. Blyke smiles and agrees.

Inside the office, Keene expresses his worry that Blyke’s vigilantism will cause a lot of trouble to Wellston. Vaughn remarks that it is no surprise, as with Rei, Seraphina and John before, and Blyke now, Wellston has become the root of problematic high-tiers. He believes the authorities will question them. Keene asks Vaughn what he intends to do. Vaughn tells the security head that Blyke his current concern, because while he has appreciable behavior, the videos of his vigilantism will pull the authorities towards him. He sighs and says that it will be difficult to get out of this situation. Vaughn asks Keene to give the ability amplifier to Darren to analyze.

However, Darren was less than pleased to learn of his assignment, as it wasn’t part of his job description of school nurse. Keene tells Darren that he liked this activity, and that he did it back in university. Darren disgruntledly asks Keene how he would analyze a sample without any laboratory equipment. Keene points out that Darren could ask for funding for lab equipment, but Darren interjects him, telling him that he’s missing his point. He reiterates his disgust at the way Vaughn is handling the school, and believes that he should instead try to improve the state of the school. Blissfully unfazed, Keene tells Darren that he’ll leave the vial for Darren to examine whenever Darren has the time for it, much to the doctor’s irritation.

Meanwhile, during school hours, students are gossiping about John’s attack on the safe house, and how Blyke was completely defeated at the hands of the King. They remark that it wasn’t that safe at all, and several members quit the club, which was a shame since it was doing well.

Remi dejectedly approaches the safe house, and on opening it, finds a mere fraction of the members there, most of them having left after John’s attack. The remaining members wish Remi good morning, and Remi notices, to her pleasant surprise, that Arlo is also present. When she asks him why he was at the safe house, when he had clearly expressed his disinterest in it previously, Arlo responds that he had some time to kill. Remi thanks him, but becomes wistful. A concerned Arlo asks her what the matter is, and Remi sadly answers that a lot of members left the safe house, but it was her fault, since it was her job to defend the students who had left. Arlo remains silent, and Remi continues to admit that Arlo was right about her being over-committed and over-optimistic about the safe house. Arlo tells her to forget everything he said, to Remi’s confusion. He places his hand on her shoulder and tells her that she must not give up, that she needs to be strong, for all the remaining students. A bewildered Remi wonders what caused Arlo to change his mind, unaware of the world-shattering revelation he had just a day ago. Arlo solidly continues, telling Remi that although the safe-house faced a major setback, people still needed it. Arlo tells Remi that she should not focus on what is lost, but on what her goal was, as that is all anyone could ask of her. Remi looks up with renewed hope.
