I JOINED SAFE HOUSE BECAUSE I WANTED SOME PEACE!

- A Safe House member

This is the 206th chapter of unORDINARY.

Summary[]

Blyke bemoans his terrible stroke of luck to Isen and Remi. They tried hard to get X-Rei known by the public and failed. Why then, should his opposite approach of being a discrete vigilante fail just as badly? Isen figures that since the news tries to get the public to hate vigilantes, the opportunity to broadcast Blyke's amateur display must have been irresistible. Blyke complains that most of that news broadcast was false, as his struggle against Lennon and Raddix stopped being hopeless with the arrival of Ponytail. Isen agrees that the degree they're smearing Blyke is suspicious. Remi wonders to herself whether this is because the media is in league with EMBER and the Authorities. Blyke suddenly recalls something he picked up from his last mission. He goes to the closet and pulls out the vials of Ability Amplifiers he took off of Raddix. When Blyke explains the basic properties of the drug, Isen realizes that he could overpower Arlo if he took it. An idea then hits Isen, and he asks his friends if the drug could possibly allow one of them to overpower John, who may or may not be able to amp the amp. Remi tells Isen to not joke around like that. Secretly tempted by the idea, Blyke snatches the vial out Isen's hand and informs his friends about the debilitating side-effects that came with using the drug. Isen tells him to lighten up a little.

Between classes, John roams the school grounds, with a grinning Zeke tagging along behind him. John overhears a student complaining about being jumped, with his friend suggesting he visit Safe House with him. The second student mentions that his visit the day before went pretty smoothly, despite the membership of several jerks. The first student wonders whether that wouldn't put them in grave danger with John. The second replies that's it's unlikely that John would be able to seek out every single member, mentioning that Zeke was kicked out for trying to start something. He adds that he believes John is bluffing about caring that much, only for the pair to round the corner and find John and Zeke waiting for them. Fearful that they were heard, they try to casually walk past. Unfortunately for them, Zeke calls them out and slams the second student against the wall with his ability. Zeke asks the Safe House member if he still thinks John's decree is a bluff. The first student panics and tries to get away, but Zeke outpaces him and ridicules him for thinking he can get away. This re-enactment of his own battle with John culminates with him picking up the student and flinging him at his friend. As both collapse to the ground in pain, Zeke declares to the surrounding onlookers to bear witness to what happens to those who side with Safe House against their King. The second student speaks up and directs his voice to John himself. He proclaims that his joining Safe House was a matter of finding peace, not to take sides in a conflict. He rants about how sick he is of the violence since John's crew took over, which earned him a punch to the face courtesy of Zeke. The second student fell unconscious, while his friend helplessly looked on.

A girl who was watching all of this take place the scene quickly flees the scene. In her hurry, she bumps into Blyke, who asks her what the big rush is. She quickly tells him about the altercation between Zeke, John and some Safe House members. Blyke is horrified by the news, and rushes off to the rescue after learning it was going down in the East Courtyard. Zeke continues to menace the remaining conscious student, whose vows of never joining the Safe House are ignored. Before Zeke can lay another finger on him, a beam is fired between the two students. Blyke demands they cease their aggression. Unfazed, John asks "Or what?", which leaves Blyke at a loss for words. John walks up to the conscious victim and kicks him hard. Blyke once more demands that John stops, who again asks what the former Jack would do about it.
