So he's putting them in danger to teach them a lesson...?

- Darren is not down with Vaughn's plan.

This is the 200th chapter of unORDINARY.

Summary[]

During a meeting with Headmaster Vaughn, Keene brings certain concerns back to the table. Though he understands that the headmaster prefers that students resolve their own issues personally, the situation at Wellston has gotten far too unstable because of John. He has sent three more students to the hospital following his battle with the Royals. On top of that, there were orders for the staff not to intervene when students were attacking each other disguised as Joker. Seeing as how the students have had to start a Safe House to counteract the chaos, Keene asked whether it was time Vaughn explained what his goal was in being lenient with John. In turn, Vaughn asked if Keene realized why John was important. The headmaster explained that it's because he embodies the hatred that's built up within their hierarchy. Being raised as a cripple and being given a taste of absolute power is not an experience most can claim to have. Letting John run rampant is meant to show everyone the consequences of this society. Bad as thing are, students have begun to take action to change things for the better. If the staff were to intervene now, the students would be deprived of a valuable learning experience. Vaughn tells Keene that the staff are to continue as instructed.

Keene relays the details of this meeting to Darren, who considers it a crazy plan cooked up by a madman. Keene tries to assuage Darren's misgivings by insisting that Vaughn has things figured out. The angry doctor snaps that Keene isn't the one who has to heal all these injured kids. Darren then admits that he's never actually felt comfortable the headmaster. He was a total mystery, and often seemed like he wasn't thinking straight, which Keene agrees with. Darren then asks whether Keene himself trusted the headmaster, because he personally was at the limit of his patience with him.

That night in her dorm, Seraphina reflects on John's recent downward spiral. She believes that he's now back to his New Bostin High mindset, shutting out anybody who might help him find peace. Seraphina still can't understand why he underwent such a drastic change in less than a year, but she's dismissed the possibilities that Unordinary and Claire could have been enough to influence him. The only conclusion left was whatever the Authorities did to him in that year gap is what's kept his tyrannical attitude suppressed all that time. Seraphina was determined to unravel the mystery surrounding John, and her efforts paid off when she came across Keon's public record. She sees that his ability's name is Memory Recall and wonders what it made him capable of.

The next day, John is putting on his uniform when he notices something is in his pants pocket. He pulls out a crumpled piece of paper and opens it to reveal a Safe House flier. He angrily thinks back to his meeting with Remi and how she went on and on about how it was meant to be a place where students could feel safe. He still believes it to be a defiant middle finger to a King they didn't like. No refuge that sprang up after he had taken power could possibly be legit, so it could only be a hiding place for all enemies of the king. If they didn't care enough to change things before, then they didn't care now. As far as John was concerned, such people didn't deserve a Safe House.

Later on, John is punishing Zeke for failing to follow through on his orders to take down every poster. The bruised Zeke insists that he and his guys tried their hardest, but Blyke and the other club members stopped them. John is unimpressed that Blyke was capable of being such a hindrance, but Zeke swears that the former Jack had definitely gotten much stronger. Zeke went on to claim that Blyke defiantly said many unflattering things about the King (only several of which were actually said). Having heard enough, John silences Zeke with another punch. Jon gives Zeke his next set of instructions: attend the grand opening later that day and compile a list of everyone who shows up.
