Your Safe House will fail. I guarantee it.

- John

This is the 192nd chapter of unORDINARY.

Plot[]

John is roaming outside the school building when he overhears a pair of students talking about the Safe House. They're excited about the fact that Royals are involved, and decide it's worth a look. They notice John listening in on them and leave quickly. The King wonders what this "Safe House" is supposed to be. Later on he notices Zeke stalking him down the hallway. He turns a corner, waits, and sucker punches Zeke as soon as he gets close. John is angry as ever to see him sneaking around. Zeke insists that he only wanted to acknowledge John as the new King and let him know that his services are always available. John responds by saying that his intention to suck up to someone who is suddenly a powerful influence couldn't be more obvious, and tells Zeke to stay the hell away from him.

A while later, Remi meets with John for the selection of the Jack. When he snaps at her for being late, she calmly states that she had class. She recalls Arlo insisting she does not vouch for him to be Jack, suspecting that John does not want him to hold any Royal's title. He does not want her to risk setting off someone so temperamental unnecessarily, but Remi only agrees to do it because Arlo needs a break. Back in the present, Remi asks if John intends to appoint Cecile as Jack, which he confirms. John asks if she's got any problems with that, which she denies before she starts to head out. John stops her and asks if she thought she was going to get away with her plot by acting cordially. He holds up one of the Safe House fliers and demands to know why they started going up after he had declared himself King. He suspects it to be a means of teaming up with the other former Royals to minimize his authority. Remi tells him that plans for Safe House started before he revealed himself as King. And the only intentions they had were plainly printed on the fliers, incidentally inspired by their discussion. Safe House was meant to provide a haven where all students, regardless of rank, could go to escape the violence erupting in school. She's working with Arlo and Blyke to take turns managing it. John scoffs at the idea that either of those two care about this supposed mission of hers. She insists he's wrong and lists other high-ranking students who have agreed to help, every one a person John bears a grudge against. But the name that strikes a nerve is Seraphina. He furiously rejects Remi's invitation to join, spitting insults at her and her club during his latest tantrum. Remi realizes that the time for civilized conversation was nearly coming to an abrupt end. Before she leaves she asks John point-blank why he, after complaining fervently that they weren't making the effort to take initiatives to stop the violence, was berating their efforts to do so now. She asks what they needed to do to satisfy him. John answers that garbage like them could do nothing to satisfy them, which doesn't surprise Remi. She then challenges the new King use his new influence to show them all how it's done, reminding him that he has no excuses left to stay in the sidelines. John still blames the others for the issues at school, but Remi calls him out on his hypocrisy for doing nothing about the problems even now. She brushes off his continued threats and insults, and asserts that she's going to continue working on Safe House regardless of how he feels about it. Angry at her continued backtalk, John promises her that she'll finally see how delusional she is when her club inevitably fails. Remi regretfully resigns to the fact that John would never cooperate with the others no matter what they did.

That night, Arlo is sitting in his apartment making a call. His Aunt Valerie picks up and they exchange overdue pleasantries. Arlo gets to the point of his call and asks if she could answer some questions he had. Valerie responds that she was about to run an errand, so Arlo asks if they could chat later. Valerie suggests that they meet up for coffee. Astonished by this suggestion, Arlo asks about her being in the area, to which she replies that her division transferred her to Wellston recently. They make plans to meet up sometime next week. After hanging up, Arlo digests the news of his aunt.
