Blyke, let's start a club!
- Remi
This is the 186th chapter of unORDINARY and the first chapter of the Safe House arc.
Plot[]
Blyke is in the library trying to study, but he's too exhausted from the night before to focus properly. Suddenly, Remi appears before him and snaps him out of his drowsiness him with an exclamation of "I FIGURED IT OUT!" She proposes they start a club. Explaining how a girl told her about "safe spaces" around the school, Remi was inspired to offset the trend of rising violence throughout the school by creating a safe zone where students of all ranks can gather without fear of being attacked. The two of them can supervise and find others to cover for them while they have class. Blyke sees promise in the idea, and agrees to help her out while also figuring out what to do for the school's situation in the long run.
The two soon meet seek out Isen in the Press Room. They find him cowering behind his desk. He's relieved to see friendly faces, while Blyke mentions that he wasn't exactly hidden from view. Blyke asks what's got him so scared, so Isen informs them that he's published an article about a certain unstable someone who might not take too kindly to being the subject of an exposé. Positive that his actions were suicidal, Isen requests that his friends burn his laptop after he's gone. Blyke snaps at Isen not to worry, as he and Remi intend to protect him should John come after him. Isen half-heartedly laughs at the prospect, to Blyke's chagrin. Remi notes that Isen's article must have worked wonders, considering that she only had to stop one Joker that day. Proud that his actions weren't totally in vain, Isen asks what brings them around. They tell him of the "Safe House" idea they're working on, and that Keene has already granted them permission to use a free classroom for club meetings. If preparations go well, their first meeting will be held in a couple of days. Isen agrees to help them by advertising the club in the newspaper, though he's privately dreading the possibility that he might not be alive before he does his part.
Blyke and Remi then begin setting up the designated room. While standing on a desk and putting up a banner, Remi thinks back to the bygone days she spent with Rei and Arlo. She sadly realises that they both worked alone as King, and that their efforts ultimately didn't amount to much. Having seen just how badly others are oppressed, she vows to unite everyone and fix the problem as a team. She hopes that Wellston can be the starting point of a world where everyone can fell safe. Suddenly, just as she's swearing on her late brother's name to carry on his legacy, the memory of her meeting with John comes to mind. His manner of speaking ill of Rei's worth as a King strikes a nerve and causes her to lose her footing. Blyke sees Remi falling and springs into action. He catches her just in time, but the stacked desks begin to topple over on them. Reflexively, Blyke activates his ability, and his new technique blasts the desks away. Once they regain their composure, Blyke grimaces that his rescue resulted in a broken window. Remi is more interested in his new move, and asks where he picked it up. Not wanting her to know the truth, Blyke claims he just trained against some random people. Remi suggests they compare his current level in a match some time. Blyke decides to get back to her on that and leaves to find someone to help with the broken glass. Remi is relieved that the confidence Blyke lost in their fight with Joker is beginning to come back.
Elsewhere, Zeke is walking down the hallway with Julien. He overhears the surrounding students debating on whether John could actually be Joker. Not believing the article himself, Zeke decides that proving to the whole school that John is nothing more than a cripple would be an entertaining endeavor.
