Summary[]
Elaine receives a text from Arlo to meet him at Woaba Boba after school, to which she happily agrees. Once she arrives, she orders the mango boba on Arlo’s recommendation, and finds it’s not bad. Arlo asks Elaine about Seraphina's condition and if her ability has returned. Elaine tells him no, and mentions how she was on a call with the hospital to discuss her test results, and she sounded distressed by what they were telling her, and that it may be “indefinite.” She also mentions that the school has found out about the situation through the bulletin postings; Arlo laments that they couldn't keep it under wraps forever, and that he will step in if things get to chaotic, but that they just have to wait things out. Elaine’s worries that this is permanent, but Arlo says that an injection could never defeat Sera.
The two overhear a news broadcast on another Superhero's death at the hands of EMBER, and Elaine is surprised that events like this are still considered newsworthy. Arlo asks if there’s anything else he should know about, and Elaine tells him about Blyke & Isen urgently bringing her to heal an injured Remi the previous Saturday night, and Arlo is shocked that anyone could damage her to that extent. Elaine describes the wounds as inconsistent with anyone at Wellston or a rival school, but believes that only an elite-tier or higher would have the power to injure Remi so badly. Arlo recalls Remi's outburst about EMBER, thinking that she could have gone after EMBER herself.
That night, John is in the dorm, recalling Arlo's words to him in the day telling him to fix Sera's situation.
