Despite her powerlessness, Seraphina puts her new self-defense skills to the test and rescued a lower-tier from Hower. Unfortunately, Hower and many other bullies who were dissatisfied with Seraphina, captured the former Ace and held her hostage. With Seraphina missing, John begins to grow desperate to find his best friend, mowing though anyone that dares get in his way. Eventually, Arlo and Elaine free Seraphina shortly before John badly injures her captors.
Remi gets a visit from Seraphina, who has questions about the incident at Kovoro Mall. Remi obliges, and shares that she believes it's connected to EMBER and the drugs they're pushing, trying to maintain the secret of her vigilanteactivities in the process. Seraphina discusses the meeting with John, but they don't think the EMBER angle links up with the group that rendered her powerless. After they part ways, Seraphina comes across a girl being bullied by Hower and decides to intervene.
Having learned of what happened in Lewes, Arlo furiously confronts Remi for trying to take matters into her own hands and nearly getting killed. He orders her to cease further activities and report her findings to the Authorities. Remi makes it clear that she will have nothing to do with the Authorities, denouncing them as a corrupt organization that didn't care about the lives of those they were meant to protect. Meanwhile, Hower makes good on his threat to make Seraphina pay for his humiliation with the help of hisassociates.
Blyke attempts to befriend John once more. John senses something off about Seraphina's recent texts. It turns out that she had been kidnapped by Illena's ownsmallclique of Wellston students.
Illena and the other students continue to abuse Seraphina. When asked why, they say they are sick of being treated inferiorly and wanted to get even with her.
Arlo and Elaine find Seraphina. The King berates the abductors, threatening to report them to the Headmaster. Unable to accept the hypocrisy of his speech, an irate Illena retaliates physically against him. Her attack is easily repelled by his Barrier, with Arlo doesn't even spare her a second look. The bullies are about to dismiss themselves when a figure in mask blocks their exit.
Though she's been brought safely to the infirmary for recovery, the ordeal Seraphina went through has left her so broken that even those devoted to her are unable to cheer her up. Though she's come to believe she deserves to suffer, John promises her that they'll get through it together. In the next bed over, Isen gets his recovery interrupted by his concerned friends, Remi and Blyke. Having heard rumors of the student with multiple abilities responsible, the two desire to find out who he is. Since Isen isn't willing to divulge anything in present company, Remi implores Arlo to keep his ears tuned for any info on the matter.
