Byron is a member of the Authorities serving as part of its EMBER task force under the codename "Brims". Alongside his partner Volcan, he is responsible for killing Rei.

Appearance[]

Brims has purple hair and green eyes.

Personality[]

Like most Authorities, Byron upheld the law very seriously. Unlike some of his colleagues, he's neither trigger-happy nor sadistic. More often than not, he prefers diplomatic approach to violent confrontation. However, when push comes to shove, he's never being the one to back down from a fight and is not afraid to go all out.

History[]

Byron was recently "promoted" to EMBER, and adapted the alias Brims. He was also given a new ability and assigned a partner in Volcan. Together, they were tasked to distribute ability-amplifiers among low-tier districts, which caused civil wars to erupt as gangs fought each other trying to obtain them. The operatives would monitor those districts, sold the amplifiers to the local tyrants, and took down any potential individuals who were keen to double-cross them.

The man behind the slaughter

One particular day, Brims murdered some poor soul and planted a vial of the amplifier on his corpse to lure some vigilantes who investigated these cases. He walked in on two of such headaches hovering over his latest victim. When one of them ask him about the crime scene, he charged in towards the duo. He managed to land a hit on the ponytailed man, forcing the two to activate their abilities. Unbeknownst to them, Volcan observed the fight from the rooftop.

Brims evaded their combined attacks with ease, until the lightning guy floated past him and touched his shoulder, releasing the electric current enough to electrocute him. Brought to his knees, he was at the mercy of the vigilantes until Volcan intervened. She used the element of surprise to injure them, turning the tide in the operatives' favour. Brims apologized to her for his inexperience in handling the newly-acquired ability. Sensing the wounded greenette behind them, he made sure the man unable to move any further. They then repelled an attack by his partner and slashed him as well.

With the vigilantes refused to give up, Brims and Volcan launched an attack on Ponytail. Unfortunately, this prompted X to grab onto them, while telling his reluctant partner to leave him behind. He used his remaining strength to release his ultimate technique on the operatives. However, it did not damage them in the slightest. They later camped on his corpse, and took some sample of his blood that were crucial for EMBER in order to copy his ability.[1]

The three musketeers

Authorities sent Byron alongside Nadia and Arnold to Wellston Private High School to arrest Seraphina, who stole and handed the data from NXGen Research Facility concerning Conversion Technology for Spectre. Vaughn welcomed the trio to his office. After the intercom announced for Seraphina to show up, she was suspiciously absent. Byron asked Vaughn how long they had to wait for her. The headmaster nonchalantly answered she might be skipping school for the day. Arnold felt the timing was very peculiar and doubted it being coincidental. Before Vaughn could address the offensive accusation, Byron played the peacemaker between the two. He explained Seraphina is wanted for stealing a highly-sensitive materials and distributing them to her superiors. Vaughn asked them for proofs, so Nadia provided the photos taken from the security footage of the Arcwood branch of NXGen Facility. She elaborated that their interrogation of Terrence, an ex-student of Vaughn and another member of the terrorist group, bolstered their case. Vaughn was unable to deny this, so Byron requested that he relinquish Seraphina at once. The headmaster stated he couldn't bring anybody forth if he doesn't know where they are. Byron wondered if Seraphina had some advance warning that they would be coming. Then he asked with the situation as it is, then perhaps they might question some of Seraphina's friends so that they might find her. All he got is a reminder of Vaughn's policy: the Authorities may not question any students without a warrant or proof of their wrongdoing. When Vaughn was told that it was a matter of national security, he responded that the circumstances would make it quite easy to get proper clearance.

Byron and Nadia were caught off-guard when Arnold advanced towards Vaughn and grabbed him by the collar. He warned his fellow officer against physical altercation, but Arnold ignored him. They could only watch as Arnold being tossed to the wall close to the door, while Vaughn asserted that NO ONE shall touch him.[2] Byron asked Arnold about his condition, but the hotheaded man was focused on getting back at the headmaster. He charged again at the headmaster, which resulted in him being defenestrated from the office. Byron warned Vaughn that assaulting officers is a serious crime that would land him in hot water. Vaughn retorted by challenging him and Nadia if they were interested in following Arnold's footstep. Gestting the message, they left his office, but not before Byron told him that he would answer for this.[3]

Powers and Abilities[]

Byron Stats

Botanist: Byron possesses the ability to manifest plant growth with which to painfully ensnare his opponents. At his level, they are not easily damaged.

Converted Abilities[]

Flame Claw: He has powerful claws which he engulfs in flames at will, capable of both slashing and burning opponents.

Lightning: He can emit electricity from his body and is capable of using it to deal lethal blows to enemies. Though according to Remi, his usage of Lightning is rather weak compared to hers. It's unclear whether this is a flaw of the conversion process or a simple lack of mastery over the ability in general.

Regeneration: It is implied he possessed this ability, judging from the lack of injuries sustained after X-Static used his ultimate technique on him and Volcan.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Considering only his main ability (Botanist), he is the weakest god-tier.
