In this episode, it mainly focuses on John and Sera. The green-haired bun girl goes to Sera and apologizes to her. What I find interesting is that she asks Sera to forgive her, but it does not seem out of fear. She was slightly confident. Going back to Episode 82, when Cecile scolded her, she wasn’t scared or nervous as a low-tier would be. I suspect that she is a mid-tier and she is the 9th position in the Top 10 list of Wellston. She was able to withstand it and she went away, obeying her.
After Sera walks away, we can see that she slowly smiles. To prove to Cecile that her theory was right, she had to take big risks. This story arc mainly focuses on the press and its members wanting to uncover the secrets of the school and become famous. All the editors of the newspaper are tied to Cecile and they cannot sway away from her influence. They want her praise and want to feel appreciated. In their own little press world, they can rise above other editors and be recognized. Through theories with evidence (what an irony), one feels as if they have accomplished a great deed.
When Sera goes to the infirmary, John was already there, and he was healing from the previous attack by Zeke. When Doctor Darren and Sera talk, he overhears the conversation. He recognizes that Sera had come and goes to greet her with a smile. As soon as John sees her, his personality switches for the rest of the episode. His concern for her overtakes the joy of seeing her.
According to the Picture below, John and Sera are sitting together. Just like they did in Episode 4. I complied two of the pictures and put them side by side for easier understanding. In the left side, we can see Sera and John sitting close together. They were also close friends. John was happy acting as a cripple and Sera was happy being free from responsibilities due to her being a god-tier. But now the tides have turned. John’s defeated the King and proved that he was more powerful, (though he preferred to keep his abilities a secret) and Sera lost her abilities. Also, they are not sitting close to each other as they did before. This picture signifies the rift between them.
In the next scene, John becomes dead serious and questions Sera. She replies casually that she had never seen her before. These pictures represent the switch in positions. John was usually a sarcastic, ‘I do what I want ‘, type of guy and values his friendship. But when he flips to the other side, he is concerned for her. All he wanted to do was keep her safe from all dangers and harm. He did not he want her to go through what he had in his old school. Life of a cripple was dangerous, and he knew it. Sera began seeing the life of a cripple through cripple’s eyes. The world was cruel and like the book, ’unORDINARY’, she wanted to help others, despite not having an ability.
Later on, Sera said,” It’s not like she did on purpose.” After hearing John’s reply, she becomes shocked. She didn’t expect John to say that. But Sera empathizes with her and says that the girl apologized to her. Like the message of the book, ‘unORDINARY’, she believes to find good in every person. But by doing this is good in a way, but this principle can also become dangerous. It is necessary to see good in people but in the world, it’s not always possible and because of this, Sera clouds the obvious clues that would eventually lead to her downfall. John is always able to evaluate his situation and use it, in this case, helping Sera to understand how much danger he is in. Sera tries to question why she would do it. Hearing John’s reply, it upsets Sera. John could perfectly tell what could have occurred. From this we learn that John is very observant. Every downfall of his makes him stronger. He becomes more observant to his surroundings. This could be a part of his ability. Sera said that she knew that eventually they would know her secret.
John realizes that since there were other students when this occurred, soon, Sera would become a target by students who hate her, and she would be bullied. All he had worked for her protection would be useless. Sera does not realize that she would not recover soon. John knows that. He explains to her that he never wanted to be beaten up and get bullied. But he has no choice, it was a sacrifice to his peace for long-term freedom. As Isen said in Episode 85,” this guy (John) would rather have his bones broken everyday than reveal his ability.” He wants to protect Sera and save her from others, but to do this, he would search to find another way. Arlo failed him, he would not only go after him but also after the green bun girl and maybe look out for clues regarding Sera. He might walk across the room where Cecile and bun-haired girl are talking, and he would hear their conversation.
"But no matter how many times its happened, you never let it get to you! ", These lines are important. (Technically almost all the lines are important but back to the theory). When Sera was there, John would distract himself from his problems and it kept his anger in control. But after Sera went away and all communication was cut, he began to feel more angry, due to excessive bulling.
Finally, his wall was shattered by Arlo, which let his true colors out. Sera justifies that if John could do as he pleases. Why would she have to be restrained, while according to her, they both are in the same situation. But they are not.
Prediction for next Episode: Sera used (and will use) his words against him and asked the right question. Even if John lies, she would catch him. She would question him about what happened on the day of the attack. It would a rapid fire round session and John is trapped. There is no way he would be able to avoid her.
